An evening of science and music combined in a surprising and enjoyable package
Andrew was on the ball enough to grab us (free!!!) tickets for this hidden gem. Ste, Amy & I joined him at day 1 of The Hexagon Experiment. Upon booking tickets, Andrew received an email as below. Honestly, we had no idea what to expect. What we got was a mini treat.
It started at 6.30pm with doors shortly after 6pm, so we had little opportunity for food beforehand. At 6.30pm the evening opened with a discussion panel. The first hour was dedicated to this. Despite the lack of audience participation, this breezed past. The panel was made up of Jane Weaver and two scientists. One was a Pulsar Hunter and the other investigated Starburst Galaxies. Brilliant. The enthusiasm of the interviewer and panel was infectious and I learned loads in the first 15 minutes.
Jane Weaver took the stage at about 7.45pm and did an excellent hour long set drawing heavily from her most recent album, Modern Kosmology. It was a great set in a hot venue. I hadn’t spent too much time with Jane’s music in the past, except her single with Doves (Seven Day Smile), but I’ll certainly be getting more involved from now on. I enjoyed every minute of this set. The crowd seemed to love it too. It feels like this is someone with a very delayed inertia behind her. Great things might be to come.
Nice pints of Almasty IPA were consumed in the Cluny. Post–gig food came from the Brinkburn Brewery – small but tasty portions of sweet potato chips, black pudding scotch egg, pan haggerty and a pork bun were the orders of the day. We then took a trip to Kiln for a civilised coffee and cake. The benefits of a gig finishing prior to 9pm.
Science, music, beer, scotch egg, coffee and cake. What a night.
